Post 14: Pre-production Documentation.

Script









As the role of production designer i was given and range of task to complete before we could move into production. The jobs and tasks i was asked to complete by our director Emily were; Location Recce, Costume and Props list which would be used in production, Mood Board which helped bring to life our character even more by using imagining myself as the character and what visual images would you associate with her. Character profiles, i created these as it helped sum up our characters and their personalities and finally, Actor profiles these consisted of pictures and vital information need to help prepare for production.

Storyboard

For the stroyboard, we decided that it was to much work for one person to do on their own. This meant that we divided up the story board between the group and we each compleated 4 pages of the story board each.
Shot List
In our group it was Liam job to create the Shot List, he did this on his own and later when through it with Emily to make sure it was okay with her and it matched the Story board.

Location Recce




Reflecting the professional industrial industry where the location recce scout would go out to various locations and take as many pictures as possible. I have tried to reflect the professional industry by putting together a number of different location recce. These would then be resented to the Director in our group who is Emily and then she will chose the most appropriate locations to film. In our short film we have chosen to film in the Quad, Science room, Tech Corridor, the TC1 room, The alley way and in front on the house.  The photos where taken by Sohail and myself, I then put the pictures together and annotated the location for Power, Permission and Lighting.

Costume and Props



I created a costume and prop table for each different scene, my reasoning behind creating this was make it much easier for both myself and the director when in production that we know exactly what we want each character to be wearing as well as addition props that will we need. Through this table it will help me to make sure that I am organised for each scene in advanced, which means that I won’t cause delays when in production, which in the professional business would be costing money for every minute wasted trying to find the correct props and the characters are in the correct costume and hair and makeup.










Mood Boards 


LucieAnne
We have chosen these pictures to represent the different characteristics of the character Lucie-Ann. The pictures of the school uniform represent her identity to being part of the school, the black tight and skirt is a part of the uniform that is compulsory. She wears boots to school to show her rebellious nature towards the rules and regulation of the school. We choose to accessorise herself with a scarf and hat which could represent her wanting to have her identity hidden from the other students. She has very strong and bold make up which represents her not wanting to fit in with the crowd. She has a strong like in music and she finds it as away to calm down after a stressful even. She looks to magazine for other peoples real life stories to try and get closer on her own problems that are relatable to her situations. She finds living at home very difficult and with her father being very unsupportive she feels very lonely, and unwanted.




Students vs Hoodies
The hoodies that we see bulling Lucyanne are from the same school, this is shown though them wearing the same school uniform such as the stripy tie, however, they try to disguise their identity why cover up their uniform by wearing black hoodies. In comprising the students that we will see outside school and in the school building will have the correct uniform, with the correct flat shoes. You will be able to see the formation of different social groups with in students and it should be clear that Lucyanna isnt part of any social group.


Student Being Bullied
We see this one student that Lucyanne constantly picks on, there could be many different reasons into why she has chosen to bully this one person in particular. For example, it could be the fact that they are high achiever at school and Lucyanna thinks she could have been like her if she had tried harder at school. It could be down to her appearance, she wears glasses and she carries her books, which is stereotypically linked to being a ‘geek.’ in addition the girl could be seen as an out cast from the rest of the groups at school and Lucyanne sees this as a chance to bully her as there is no one there to defend her.

Actor profiles



I created these character profiles for Emily our producer so she had a hard copy of what all our main characters look like and all the essential information that is needed of them.  As well as being helpful to Emily they are also of good use to myself when preparing costumes. It will make it easier when buying clothes and what sizes are needed. Having this information will mean there will be no delays when it comes to production, as in then the professional business anytime that is lost all cost money.



Technical Recce















From using my Location Recce photos, Sohail then created these Technical Recce designs.  These where designed so that the Director could annotate on the different positions for the camera when in production.  Emily and I went through the shot list to draw on the position of the camera that we think would work best for different shot sizes and the movement and direction that would be taking place within each frame. In addition we also added on the different character positions and where they would be moving to and from during the scene. We finally added a key so that it would be easily understandable for both ourselves and others in the group.


Shooting schedule


we created a shooting schedule to make sure that we remained organised and we knew exactly when we would be filming. This also aloud time for use individually to plan what we would be needed for each scene, for example in the science scene I knew that i needed to have a large number of props. By having the schedule it aloud me time to find and borrow the equipment we would need.


Production Logo
As a group we had to design a production logo that the audience will beable to recognise our work with. This logo would also been seen on our Postcard used when promoting our short film and possibly on the film review. As a group we brain stormed ideas on a design that we thought would be appealing, eye catching and also a name that is simple and catchy to the audience. We decided on the name ThaT Production Company as we felt it would be easily remembered and was something different to whats already used in film production. We created two logos shown below.










After we had created our ideas,Liam created the designs using Photoshop. We then took our two best designed and asked for audeince feedback.



Logo1= Sunglasses
Logo2= Clapper Board
After looking at the audeince feedback we decided to use the logo with the Clapper Board, this will now be used in our Short film and Postcard. After listening to the audience feedback it was clear that the majority found Logo 2 more linked to the film industry with the image of the Clapper Board.

Camera Experiments
In our group Liam was given the role as Camera man. This year when filming we are using much more expensive and professional cameras, however even though this would improve the quality of our filming we had never used this camera before which meant it was a good idea to have a practice at using the camera. In the experiment all 3 camera men from each group came together and experimented using the basic skills they will need to know when it comes to filming. Below is a example of the types of skills they looked at. 



From this short clip we can see Liam setting up the Tripod, looking at the safety measure which as taken such as listening for like click when assembling and finally how to make adjustments. There are many more clips that can be seen of Liam learning the new skills for the camera which he has placed on his blog. Sound Experiment 
In our group Sohail was given the job of Lighting and Sound. We have previously looked at lighting as a class so as a whole group we all had a good understanding of the different types of lighting and whats the most appropriate. However just like Camera the sounds equipment was new to use all and never been used before. This again meant that all the sound people from each group came together and worked on how to set up and use the equipment.

By watching both sets of clips on the Camera and Sounds this now means that if for some reason Liam or Sohail is unable to be there for production I now have an understanding of what i can do to help and fill in their roll.
